Ina Lee is a sound artist based in Jeju, South Korea. She creates music and sound works using field recordings, voices, and materials gathered from the places she encounters. More recently, her practice has expanded into photography and moving image, revealing connections between place, memory, and emotion.

This interest in listening and connection also shapes her socially engaged art projects with citizens and local communities. Through recording and collaborative creation, she invites people to express personal experiences and rediscover everyday surroundings, contributing to more connected and supportive communities.

Her recent work includes the solo exhibition BARAM in Shanghai in 2026; Waterscape, presented in 2025 as part of UNESCO’s Nature and Divinity project; and the sound album Sunrise to Sunset on the Sea, released and presented at the ASEAN Content Forum in Jeju in 2024. She is currently developing a new water-based project in Zhujiajiao, looking at how sound can reflect people’s lives, create connection, and open new possibilities.

当光与声相遇，水便开始了对话。静止的水面映照着天空与树木，而水下的叶片与石块则留存着光的痕迹。水既是一面镜子，又是一个生命体，同时揭示出内外的一切。

来自江河与海洋的声音汇聚成一股洪流，超越边界不断前行。通过水体持续流动的影像与节奏，《Waterscape》映照出生命的延续性。

When light and sound meet, water begins a dialogue. The still surface reflects the sky and trees, while leaves and stones beneath the water hold traces of light. Water becomes both a mirror and a living body, revealing what lies inside and outside at once.

Sounds gathered from rivers and seas merge into a single current, moving beyond boundaries. Through the images and rhythms of water in constant motion, Waterscape reflects on the continuity of life.

Public Art Project in Sound, Music, and Voice

由济州、威尔士、瑞士、洛杉矶、日本和上海的85名参与者共同开发

《Letter from Waves (to.2125) 》最初是一项公共艺术项目，旨在收集当下声音、话语与场景，向生活在一百年后的未来人们传递信息。该项目由Ina Lee策划并带领，汇集了济州岛及海外的市民与艺术家共同参与创作。

收集的录音被改编成原创音乐，融合了个人经历与济州岛的自然声音景观。该项目后来在韩国国家公共广播机构KBS的一次采访中亮相，其音乐视频也同步播出。

Developed with 85 participants across Jeju, Wales, Switzerland, LA, Japan, and Shanghai

Letter from Waves (to.2125) began as a public art project that gathered the sounds, voices, and scenes of the present as a message to people living 100 years in the future. Conceived and led by Ina Lee, the project was created with citizens and artists from Jeju and abroad.

The collected recordings were transformed into original music, bringing together personal experiences and the natural soundscape of Jeju. The project was later featured in an interview on KBS, South Korea’s national public broadcaster, where its music video was also broadcast.

参与式声音表演 Participatory Sound Performance

由Ina Lee策划并主导的《In Response to Art》邀请观众和艺术家通过声音来回应视觉艺术作品。参与者运用人声、乐器以及即兴音效，将他们所见、所感与所想象的内容转化为现场表演。

项目并未寻求单一的解读，而是将每一种回应视为进入艺术作品的新方式。参与者通过不同的感官和视角，在观看、聆听与表演之间穿梭体验这些作品。

Conceived and led by Ina Lee, In Response to Art invited audiences and artists to respond to visual artworks through sound. Using voices, instruments, and improvised sounds, participants translated what they saw, felt, and imagined into live performance.

Rather than searching for a single interpretation, the project approached each response as a new way of entering the artwork. Moving between seeing, listening, and performing, participants experienced the works through different senses and perspectives.

BARAM (바람)

在韩语中，“Baram”意为风与愿望。本次展览结合了来自济州、东京、北京和上海的照片、环境录音以及无声的嗡鸣声。

森林、水流、城市街道与海岸线通过光影的变幻与流动呈现出来。一种氛围性的组合贯穿整个展厅，将照片与声音融为一体，营造出不断变化的听觉氛围。

BARAM思考风如何承载那些看不见的东西 – 飘过的感受、遥远的渴望，以及时光流逝后留下的痕迹。

In Korean, Baram means both wind and wish. The exhibition combines photographs, environmental recordings, and wordless humming from Jeju, Tokyo, Beijing, and Shanghai.

Forests, water, city streets, and coastlines appear through shifting light and movement. An ambient composition moves throughout the gallery, linking the photographs and voices into a changing acoustic atmosphere.

BARAM considers how wind carries what cannot be seen—passing sensations, distant wishes, and what remains after a moment has passed.
