MATTER LIFE SERIES
“Matter is a physical substance that occupies space and possesses rest mass, especially as distinct from energy.
Matter is a physical substance—something that occupies space and carries weight, distinct from yet in constant dialogue with energy. Within the conceptual framework of the Matter Life Series, matter becomes a metaphor for the fundamental interplay between masculine and feminine forces. The male is expressed through layered density, linear structures, and gravitational weight, while the female is embodied in fluid contours, openness, and the organic flow of form. These opposing yet complementary presences coexist across the surface—colliding, merging, and evolving—mirroring the essential duality that shapes all life. In this way, matter is not only a physical reality but also a symbolic one: a container for relational energy, tension, and unity.
On the technical painting side. I have followed a linear arabesque influenced by Brice Marden, de Kooning, and Gorky—where gesture, intuition, and fluidity converge. The line functions not only as a formal element but as a structure in itself, rendered with the weight and presence of a forged material. This linear figure takes on a density akin to the industrial solidity of Richard Serra’s iron installations—firm, assertive, and unapologetically material. The maze-like configurations guide the viewer through a non-linear path of perception, offering infinite points of entry. They invite a kind of visual wandering, where each shift in perspective reveals a new spatial rhythm—as if one could step into and navigate that concealed world beneath the surface.
This series embraces the duality of existence through the visual language of abstraction. The masculine and feminine are not opposites, but interdependent energies—forces that shape and complete one another. By layering density against transparency, structure against fluidity, the Matter Life Series explores how these elements interact across the canvas. Their coexistence reflects the complexity of human experience and the natural world, where tension gives rise to harmony, and balance is achieved not through symmetry, but through dialogue.”
