Ophélie Collet
Ophélie Collet is a French artist who explores the transformation of matter.
Guided by natural phenomenology and the physical behavior of materials, she developed her projects with the idea that everything flows, everything changes over time, named panta rhei.
Her practice unfolds between installation and choreography, between matter and body, between human and non-human time. She explores transitional states and the kinetic presence of materials, using media such as plexiglass, concrete, fabrics, water, and fire.
Ophélie investigates the behavior of matter, questioning its ability to transform and to structure itself under the influence of mechanical and physical forces.
She tends to create choreographic and scenographic systems — such as performances of matter.
Through the gesture, she allows movement to detach itself from the individual intention. Guided by the material, motion unfolds with its own rhythm, its own energy, its own time: the time of matter.
Ophélie’s works focus on the liminal space where matter becomes form — where it becomes a body. How does matter move in space? How can we perceive its trajectory? How can we produce this phenomenon?
Her recent explorations extend this question through the creation of a mechanical system that sustains continual movement.
She investigates the boundaries between the living and the inert, between movement and its capture, between the human and the elemental. Her work unfolds as a cycle, where each ending opens onto a new beginning — a phenomenon, she seeks to reveal and bring to the stage.
Graduate of the National School of Applied Arts in Paris Duperré, then she has developed her work in Japan, where she continues to exhibit and create.
