Shealyn Biron is a Los Angeles–based costume designer and multidisciplinary artist whose personal practice is driven by an irrepressible need to make. For her, craft is more than technique—it is a way of thinking, where touch, material, and time become forms of knowledge. She works across illustration, fabrication, handcraft, and fiber arts to explore how garments hold memory and identity.
Her fascination lies at the intersection of history and anthropology: the ways in which cultures have developed techniques of adornment, and how those techniques encode social, spiritual, and aesthetic values. She is drawn to slow, methodical processes—beadwork, lacework, textile construction, handcraft traditions—that resist the disposability of mass production. In each piece, she searches for the story hidden within material: how surfaces become archives of labor, lineage, and desire.
Her work seeks to bridge these worlds: honoring craft traditions while embracing experimentation, merging historic techniques with speculative aesthetics. Her practice stages a conversation between material culture and visual storytelling—reminding us that what we wear, make, and carry are never just decorations, but profound expressions of who we are.
